Hope in Action with Tracie L. Morgan and Ashley Glimasinski | Tangible Acts of Welcome: Simple Ways to Walk with Newcomers

You might think welcoming refugees or newcomers sounds like a huge commitment, offering up your home, and pausing your own life entirely. However, welcome really looks like many different small acts of kindness. And when we do this in community, these small actions create a massive difference.

Welcoming simply means moving from being concerned about immigrants to actually participating in their lives in whatever ways you're able to. This sounds simple, but if you don’t know where to start, you’re in the right place.

In this episode, you’ll learn why listening comes before acting, and why ordinary people, not experts, are the backbone of welcoming new members of our communities. You'll hear how scripture calls us to hospitality as a discipleship practice, not a political statement. And we're also joined by Krista Kartson from Welcome.US, who shares her journey from equipping sponsors to becoming one herself, walking alongside Afghan and Ukrainian families in her own community.

Please follow the show wherever you get your podcasts and share with someone you know that would benefit from these conversations.

What You’ll Learn from this Episode about Welcome:

  • What welcome really means and why it doesn’t need to be a grand gesture that disrupts your day-to-day.

  • Practical ways to participate in welcome work based on your capacity, skills, and gifts.

  • Why consistency over intensity leads to sustainable hospitality for refugees and newcomers.

  • How to walk with newcomers rather than trying to rescue them or take on their burdens.

  • The role of community in sharing the load of welcome work.

  • How Welcome.US equips Americans to sponsor and support newcomers.

  • Why welcoming immigrants is a discipleship practice rooted in scripture.

About Us

FINAL (2).png

We started this podcast because friends and neighbors were coming to us saying, “I’m seeing all these headlines about immigration, but I don’t really understand what’s going on.” They didn’t have personal connections to immigrants or a legal background—just a sense that something wasn’t adding up. Those conversations showed us a real need for honest, accessible education about immigration law in the Christian community. That’s why we’re here: to make sense of the noise and bring clarity where it’s needed most.
